E-File Pipeline

Filed. Acknowledged.
In real time.

When a return is ready, TaxWallet serializes it into the IRS manifest format, validates it against the schema, signs it, and routes it through a licensed external transmitter. The acknowledgment comes back to the same return — accepted or rejected with the exact reason code.

This is the real pipeline, animated: a finished return is serialized into the IRS manifest, signed with your EFIN and PIN, transmitted to the IRS Modernized e-File gateway, and acknowledged back onto the return — accepted or rejected, with reason codes, in real time.

The proof is in the acknowledgment.

A submission engine is only as good as what comes back. Here is what the pipeline has actually produced in production.

98%

IRS acceptance rate

Schema validation catches most rejections before transmission — so the returns that reach the IRS are the ones it accepts.

30,000+

Returns accepted

Federal returns, every one acknowledged back onto the return in real time.

Seconds*

To acknowledgment

Real-time MeF, not an overnight batch you wait on until morning.

Since 2022

In production

Through every April crush since — the hours when instant acceptance matters most.

*IRS acknowledgment timing isn’t guaranteed. If the IRS takes longer, we keep polling and post your acceptance to your return the moment it comes back — nothing for you to do.

How a return reaches the IRS.

Four stages between a finished return and an IRS acknowledgment — and the connection that carries it. Every stage runs against the IRS schema, so a return that leaves TaxWallet is a return the IRS can read.

01

Manifest generation

A completed return is serialized into the IRS-defined XML schema — the manifest, the return data, and every required binary attachment — and validated against the schema before it ever leaves the building.

02

Signed & sealed

Each submission is signed with the originating EFIN, stamped with the practitioner PIN, and checksummed. Nothing transmits without passing structural validation first.

03

Routed to the transmitter

The sealed submission routes through a licensed external transmitter that holds the direct IRS connection. We are transparent about this: we generate and own the return; a licensed partner carries it the last mile to the IRS.

04

Acknowledgment returns

The IRS acknowledgment — accepted, rejected, or pending — flows back through the same channel and lands on the return in real time, with the exact reason codes attached.

The connection

Modernized e-File (MeF)

Returns ride the IRS’s real-time XML gateway — not a nightly batch drop — so acknowledgments come back in seconds.

EFIN + PIN signed

Every submission is signed with your originating EFIN and practitioner PIN, then checksum-sealed before it moves.

Encrypted in transit

The sealed manifest travels encrypted end to end through a licensed transmitter that holds the direct IRS link.

Schema-validated first

Each return is checked against the live IRS schema before transmission — most rejections never leave the building.

For your client

Verify your refund on the go.

The same acknowledgment that lands on your screen reaches your client’s phone the second the IRS issues it. No more “where’s my refund?” calls — they watch it move from filed to funded, in English or Spanish.

  • Push the moment status changes

Filed, accepted, approved, deposited — pushed in real time.

  • App + SMS, bilingual

Updates by app and text, in English or Spanish.

  • Refund tracking that ends the calls

Your office stops fielding status questions all season.

What you get at the wire.

The difference between software that submits and software that confirms is what happens after you hit send. Here’s what TaxWallet does once a return is in flight.

Real-time acceptance status

No overnight batch guessing. Acceptances and rejections surface on the return as the IRS issues them, per filing, per office.

Reason-coded rejections

When a return bounces, you get the IRS error code and the line it points to — not a generic failure. Fix it and resubmit in the same flow.

Transparent transmission

We don’t pretend to be the gateway. A licensed transmitter holds the IRS connection; we own everything up to and including the manifest.

Built for the deadline

The pipeline is sized for the April crush — the hours when volume spikes and acknowledgments need to be instant.

Stop hitting send and
