TaxWallet Newsroom

June 11, 2026

Extension requests look heavy on paper but TaxWallet collapses them to four taps. Use this when a client needs more time to gather W-2s, 1099s, or business records, and you want the IRS confirmation in hand the same day.

1

Open the lead

From the Leads Directory, tap the client's row to open the profile.
2

Start a return → 4868

Hit the green "+ Return" button, pick Form 4868 — Extension from the type chooser. We pull the client's SSN, address, and last year's AGI automatically.
3

Estimate the liability

Enter the total tax estimate (line 4) and any payments made so far (line 5). TaxWallet computes line 6 for you and warns if the underpayment looks high.
4

Submit + collect ack

Tap Submit. The IRS ack comes back in ~30 seconds and lands on the Activity tab — print or text it to the client as a receipt.

Common pitfalls

  • An extension extends the filing deadline, not the payment deadline. Make sure the client knows their balance is still due on April 15.
  • If the client has a state return, check whether the state auto-grants an extension when the federal one is filed. Most do, a few don't — there's a quick reference card linked from the form itself.

That's it. Three minutes, IRS confirmation in hand, client on their way.
