1. Purpose of This Statement
This IRS E-File Compliance Statement explains the responsibilities, restrictions, and operational boundaries of TaxWallet (“Company”, “we”, “our”), a digital platform that provides tax workflow tools, secure document management, identity verification, and optional e-file support integrations.
TaxWallet is not a tax return preparer and does not assume responsibility for the accuracy, completeness, or legality of any tax return prepared or filed by tax professionals or taxpayers using the Platform.
2. IRS Authorized E-File Provider Status
TaxWallet maintains an IRS Electronic Filing Identification Number (EFIN) for specific transmission functions. However, the primary responsibility for preparing, reviewing, validating, and submitting tax returns rests with tax professionals and authorized e-file providers using the Platform.
Tax professionals using TaxWallet are considered the Electronic Return Originators (EROs) for all returns they prepare, unless explicitly stated otherwise.
Where taxpayers self-prepare returns, the taxpayer remains the responsible party for all filing decisions.
3. E-File Transmission Methodology
TaxWallet supports hybrid e-file workflows, including:
- Integration with third-party authorized IRS transmitters,
- Export of return data for filing through external tax software,
- Optional direct submission paths where supported.
The final filing action is always performed either by:
- A tax professional (acting as the ERO), or
- The taxpayer (acting as the self-filer).
TaxWallet does not guarantee acceptance, timeliness, or accuracy of filings submitted through any third-party systems.
4. Storage of Taxpayer & Return Information
TaxWallet stores tax documents, refund estimates, calculations, forms, and taxpayer data to support workflow features.
All tax data is encrypted at rest and in transit using industry-standard cryptographic protocols.
Refund estimates generated by the Platform are informational only and do not represent the final or official IRS calculation. Final validation rests solely with the tax professional.
5. IRS-Compliant Electronic Signatures (Form 8879)
TaxWallet supports IRS-compliant electronic signatures, including Form 8879, using:
- SMS OTP codes,
- Email verification links,
- Mobile device cryptographic identifiers,
- Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA),
- Biometric verification (face/selfie match).
All e-sign events are logged and preserved in accordance with IRS retention requirements.
6. Identity Verification & Authentication
TaxWallet employs multiple identity verification mechanisms, including:
- SMS-based multi-factor authentication (MFA),
- Email verification,
- Device fingerprinting and unique installation identifiers,
- Knowledge-based questions (KBA),
- Biometric verification on supported devices.
These mechanisms assist EROs in meeting IRS identity validation obligations but do not replace the professional’s legal responsibility to verify identity where required.
7. EFIN Handling & Access Controls
EFIN information is collected only from verified tax professionals.
EFIN data is accessible exclusively by authorized firm owners, administrators, and designated compliance personnel.
TaxWallet does not validate, guarantee, or assume responsibility for the accuracy or legitimacy of any EFIN provided by users.
8. Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)
TaxWallet enforces strict RBAC permissions to limit access to taxpayer information based on user role:
- Preparer,
- Manager,
- Administrator,
- Staff (optional, limited access with supervisory approval).
TaxWallet is not responsible for unauthorized data access caused by misconfigured user permissions within a firm.
9. Mobile App Document Capture
TaxWallet’s mobile applications allow taxpayers and professionals to capture and upload sensitive documents (W-2s, 1099s, IDs, receipts, etc.).
All mobile uploads are encrypted using secure, device-specific keys before transmission.
TaxWallet stores these documents solely to facilitate return preparation and compliance workflows.
10. Audit Logging & Compliance Tracking
TaxWallet maintains immutable audit logs tracking:
- Logins and authentication events,
- Document uploads and downloads,
- E-signature activity,
- Return preparation steps,
- Filing status changes.
Audit logs cannot be altered by users and are retained in compliance with IRS Publication 4557.
11. Responsibilities of Tax Professionals & EROs
Tax professionals are solely responsible for:
- Reviewing and validating all return entries,
- Obtaining required taxpayer signatures,
- Ensuring EFIN compliance,
- Filing timely and accurate returns with the IRS,
- Satisfying all IRS due diligence, suitability, and recordkeeping requirements.
TaxWallet does not verify tax return accuracy, claim eligibility, taxpayer identity, or compliance with IRS regulations.
12. Limitations of Liability
TaxWallet is not responsible for:
- IRS rejections, delays, system outages, or filing backlogs,
- Incorrect data entered by users,
- Calculations, tax positions, or return outcomes,
- EFIN misuse,
- Fraudulent filings submitted through the Platform,
- Penalties, interest, or enforcement actions resulting from user errors.
All liability relating to the filing of tax returns rests exclusively with the taxpayer or tax professional submitting the return.
13. Updates to This Statement
TaxWallet may update this IRS E-File Compliance Statement at any time to reflect regulatory changes, system enhancements, or operational updates.
Material changes will be communicated via email, dashboard notifications, or in-app alerts.
